Established in 1939 in Shillong, the Commissionerate of Labour is committed to address labour-related matters. At present the Commissionerate of Labour Assam is functioning with 120 Nos. of Officers and 339 Staff members who are all dedicated to work towards safeguarding the rights and well-being of workers.

The Commissionerate of Labour, Assam formulates projects, policies, and schemes for worker’s development, enacts State Acts and Rules when necessary, and provides social security benefits to unorganized workers, including those in the construction sector.

The Commissionerate dynamically incorporates legal provisions, ensuring occupational safety, health, and hygiene in workplaces. By performing statutory and quasi-judicial functions, the Commissionerate addresses industrial disputes arising from various labour problems. The Commissionerate is committed to promote a labour market conducive to investment, positive industrial relations, eradication of child and bonded labour and overall economic growth. Through appropriate legislations, inspection, compliance monitoring, and social dialogue, it strives to maintain the welfare of the labour force and achieve a sustainable economy.
